An important first step for most cancer patients upon diagnosis is the need to gain a basic understanding of their particular type of cancer and the treatment options available. This need for health information is the foundation for The Green House – J. Leighton Green, Jr. Cancer Resource Center. The Green House first opened its doors in October of 1999. The principle function has been the provision of cancer information for patients, their loved ones and medical professionals. Beyond cancer information, library patrons will find materials that seek to offer comfort and acknowledge the emotional as well as the practical concerns of a cancer diagnosis. Each satellite provides wig and head covering product for women experiencing hair loss due to treatment as part of the Four Seasons Beauty Program.
This vital information center acts as a free lending library operating out of 5 treatment facilities in the community of El Paso. Cancer and disease information is difficult for many to absorb due, in part, to the overwhelming anxiety that accompanies a diagnosis. It is for this reason that The Green House resources come in varying media. Seeking to satisfy different learning styles, the center delivers information through various vehicles, including:
