The Patient Air Transportation Service (PATS) was established in 1998 to provide free airline transportation to cancer patients who are referred outside the El Paso area for evaluation, treatment, surgical procedure or further diagnostic study.
PATS is available to any patient whose medical treatment is unavailable locally and who has a genuine financial need.
Upon written referral by an El Paso physician to a hospital or cancer institution in the state of Texas, New Mexico or Arizona, the PATS coordinator will arrange and pay for round-trip transportation.
An individual may apply for assistance after physician referral and the scheduling of an appointment at the referred to any hospital or cancer center and after securing an appointment at same.
The PATS program serves all cancer institutions in the state of Texas.
