Sgt. Pepper and Moon Dog Band at benefit concert for wig programThe Rio Grande Cancer Foundation is the proud recipient of over $8,000.00 dollars for the benefit of the Four Seasons Beauty Program. On April 21, 2012 a group of volunteers, community activists and musicians organized a spectacular concert celebrating the music of rock legends, the Beatles. Proceeds from the concert held at El Paso’s Chamizal National Memorial Park will supplement the ever-increasing demand for wigs that are given free of charge to cancer patients experiencing hair loss due to treatment for the disease.

Event chairman and talented volunteer, Gilbert Gonzalez is responsible for leading a brilliant band of musicians and on-stage talent through a song list that included such classics as:

  • Across the Universe
  • A Little Help From My Friends
  • In My Life
  • And more…

Musicians joining Gonzalez, whose onstage persona was that of Sgt. Pepper, come from El Paso’s own Moon Dog Band, pianist Billy Townes, American Idol contestant, Vianey Natera, vocalist Star Chacon, Ysleta High School Brass Band and the members of the Bel Air Pipe Band. Adding to the evening’s entertainment, local attorney Fernando Chacon performed in the role of Cheeky Boy in between music sets.

The concert titled Sgt. Pepper’s Wondrous Wigorium has given a great gift to the Four Seasons Beauty Program, an initiative to alleviate the challenges faced by women with cancer through the distribution of wigs, hats, scarves and post-mastectomy camisoles.

“Our program continues to see an ever-increasing need for wigs as the numbers of cancer patients in treatment continue to rise. This concert was not only a great joy but it will bring real relief to women struggling with hair loss”, said Cindi Martinez, coordinator for the Four Seasons Beauty Program.

The Third Annual BRAS FOR THE CAUSE fundraiser is set to take place on October 19, 2012.

Join the Women's Council of Realtors - El Paso Del Norte Chapter as they present this uniquely creative event to raise awareness for the cause of breast cancer. Members of the council and community supporters will adorn bras in themes selected by participants. Those bras will then be auctioned, live during a delicious dinner presentation. A silent auction is part of the event as well. A portion of the proceeds from the auctions and dinner will be donated to the Rio Grande Cancer Foundation in support of the Four Seasons Beauty Program that provides cancer patients with wigs, head coverings and post-mastectomy camisoles.
